Action plan for industrial accidents
What to do after an industrial accident? Take advice from the IDEWE guide.
As of january 2008 new declaration form for industrial accidents
For the last few years a lot modifications were made to the declaration form. As of january 1st the adapted form is in use. Companies who electronically register industrial accidents will have noticed that new data have been added.
If an accident happens in your company or organisation, you must react quickly and efficiently. An action plan for industrial accidents is not an unnecessary luxury because in the period following the accident, every detail can be important. IDEWE-IBEVE has produced a guide with the 5 steps you must follow after an accident:
1. Give first aid Usually the first aiders - if there are any - are not the first on the scene. So it is important to give everyone in the company or organisation some simple rules. As an employer, you must try to take measures directly to prevent the industrial accident so there are no more victims. Record any witnesses and/or persons involved. The IDEWE-IBEVE guide tells you how to approach this best.
2. Information Then the paperwork begins. Remember to report every accident to the industrial accident insurers. The guide gives you tips on how to complete the report form as correctly and completely as possible.
3. Other legal obligations A third, legally compulsory step is to produce statements and reports, and carry out an investigation. This procedure too is explained in the guide.
4. Research An accident need not necessarily have only harmful consequences (injury, absence of the victim from work ...). Go to research and try to find the causes which you can then influence. Put everything into an action plan: who does what when?
5. Aftercare
Follow up the accident. Both medically and psychosocially, a period of aftercare is very important. How can the victim of a serious accident or trauma be reintegrated into the workplace under the most favourable conditions? IDEWE-IBEVE will support you and explain in detail what you can and cannot do.
With this guide, IDEWE-IBEVE helps you deal with an industrial accident from A to Z. It is a practical working instrument for the employer, the accident prevention advisor, ... and for everyone involved or interested in industrial accidents and their consequences.IDEWE-IBEVE specialists will be pleased to inform you of all aspects of industrial accidents during their periodic company visit.
