Welfare under control - a step-by-step guide
IDEWE-IBEVE has developed a handy guide for RIE
Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RIE) is the new point of focus for IDEWE-IBEVE. Indeed, a thorough RIE is the best starting point for an effective prevention policy. This point of focus dovetails nicely with the campaign of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). The 'Healthy Workplace – Good for you. Good for business' EU-OSHA initiative started in 2008 and focuses on risk assessment.
This risk assessment is a regulatory obligation. The Belgian employee welfare act of 4 August 1996 and the implementing decisions thereto (27 March 1998) compel all companies to perform a general risk assessment.
This assessment is more comprehensive and more detailed than the aforementioned RIE. In other words such a risk assessment can be a tall order, even for large companies with ample resources.
A specific stage plan
Of course specific and detailed methods for performing the RIE in accordance with legal rules and regulations exist. In spite of the availability of these methods, risk inventory and assessment remains a job for specialists. For small employers it can be quite daunting or even outright impossible to meet the requirements.
IDEWE-IBEVE wants to help businesses with a new, handy guide. This brochure provides employers with all the information they need in the form of a clear specific stage plan. In particular for businesses with a limited number of specific risks, the information provided should enable a prompt assessment. An employer who knows his business and follows the stages described in the brochure should be able to get a long way by himself.
The ‘Welfare under control – a step-by-step guide’ brochure is free and can be downloaded (in Dutch or French) here. You can also ask for a copy from your local IDEWE-IBEVE office.
