Voluntary check-up
The purpose of check-up examinations proposed by IDEWE is prevention. By regularly examining the employee in the course of his career, we may detect predisposing factors or the first symptoms of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes or a number of other malignant disorders. The check-up examination comprises an extensive interview, a clinical examination, and a number of non-burdening technical examinations. The check-up takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes. The blood test is always conducted beforehand, so the results of the analysis can be discussed during the consultation.
While a check-up is always useful, its importance and effectiveness increases as one gets older. For this reason we advise to start with the check-ups at the beginning of the employee's career, at a fairly low frequency – for example once every four years. From the age of 40, it is advisable to increase the frequency to once every two years, for example.
From the age of 45, in any event extra tests are conducted to screen for prostate problems in male employees and for thyroid gland defects in women. A great deal of attention is also devoted to the discussion of blood fat levels (cholesterol and triglycerides) and blood sugar levels, along with other risk factors for cardiovascular disorders.
If we find defects or abnormal values and are of the opinion that further testing or treatment is required, we always refer the person concerned to their GP or doctor in attendance.
