What are diversity and inclusion?
Diversity refers to visible and invisible differences between people such as gender identity, age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and physical ability. Inclusion is ensuring that these diverse individuals feel valued by and included in your organisation. At an inclusive workplace, everyone is given the opportunity to contribute and develop themselves.
Why commit to diversity and inclusion?
Promoting diversity and inclusion has many benefits for your organisation:
- Innovation and creativity: a diverse team brings together different perspectives. This leads to more innovative solutions.
- Better decision-making: different backgrounds and experiences enable more balanced choices.
- Positive image: a reputation as an inclusive organisation attracts talent and enhances your image.
- Increased engagement: your employees feel valued and are more motivated.
How can you implement diversity and inclusion at your organisation?
Successful implementation starts with a clear policy and specific actions:
Developing a policy
Develop a strategy that aligns with your organisation’s values and goals:
- Assessment of current situation: investigate your organisation’s current levels of diversity and inclusion.
- Goal setting: determine in which areas you want to improve and define measurable goals.
- Clear communication: raise your team’s awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion and inform them of the actions you are taking.
- Monitoring and evaluation: review your policy regularly and make adjustments where necessary.
Need help with the development of a diversity and inclusion policy?
To be able to draw up a strong inclusion policy, the best starting point is to use an organisation scan to investigate the current situation at your organisation.
Practical tools and support
IDEWE has developed three practical tools for measurement and promotion of inclusion:
- Organisational scan: evaluate where your organisation stands regarding diversity and inclusion.
- Psychosocial wellbeing risk assessment: identify and manage psychosocial risks at your organisation.
- Interactive modules: increase your team’s inclusion-related knowledge and skills.
Long-term employability
Ensuring the sustainable employability of every employee is also about inclusion. The best way to achieve that is a solidly constructed policy.

What does the labour deal have to say about diversity and discrimination in the labour market?
The labour deal includes specific measures to improve diversity and reduce discrimination in the labour market. Scientific monitoring at an industry level is used to identify diversity and discrimination trends and bottlenecks. This legal framing encourages organisations to be more proactive and create an inclusive workplace.
IDEWE helps you incorporate the measures in a policy tailored to your organisation.
What can IDEWE do for your employees?
It is so important to be able to just be yourself. That includes at work. Do your employees know they can contact an external prevention service such as IDEWE to help them with this?
We help employees and teams gain an understanding of their situation at work, speak up about wellbeing and do better at work both physically and mentally.
Together with çavaria, we have designed PREVENT, a project to support organisations in embedding inclusion in their policies over the long term.
