What is a psychosocial risk assessment?

A psychosocial risk assessment is used to identify psychosocial risks in the workplace. Examples include stress, bullying  and burnout . The risk assessment is part of your workplace psychosocial wellbeing policy.

During your assessment, you will explore where the risks are, but also which resources contribute to motivation, engagement and wellbeing. This provides you with a comprehensive understanding of which factors are enhancing or threatening your organisation’s psychosocial climate.

More specifically, your risk assessment will explore five aspects of work:

  1. Work organisation
  2. Job content
  3. Working conditions
  4. Living conditions at work
  5. Working relationships

By assessing these five areas, you can discover where risks may arise, but also which positive changes your organisation can make to improve the wellbeing of your employees.

Why is a psychosocial risk assessment necessary?

Psychosocial risk assessments are required by law. You must conduct them at regular intervals. When you draw up a new Global Prevention Plan every five years, this is an ideal opportunity to also repeat the risk assessment. It is also good to do so after any big changes such as a reorganisation, new process or merger.

What will this do for your organisation?

  • You are working on a preventive wellbeing policy: discovering your organisation’s strengths and challenges to help you prevent problems such as burnout.
  • You are improving your company culture: creating an environment with motivated employees who can work safely.
  • You are ensuring efficient solutions: receiving practical recommendations for improvements.
